Despite our accidental love for blue (see our group photo here for proof), we are often thinking about many colours at Dust & Things, especially for homewares and décor. Today, we are exploring colour inspiration for the kitchen, a room that is more often considered in a functional manner, rather than from a design perspective.

The design style of a kitchen can be subtle or particularly bold if you are fond of primary colours. Reds, yellows and blues will work well for tiled areas or a splashback, or perhaps a colourful industrial pendant light fitting or coloured Range cooker will draw the eye into the room.

A country style kitchen with wooden counter tops lends itself to pretty pastel tones such as mint and blush pink, perfect for this year's subtle Pantone palette. We love how the mint fridge is the main feature in this kitchen and how even more colour is injected into the space with floral arrangements and painted wooden chairs. Imagine a lazy brunch there – we certainly could!

This feature approach also works well for hidden colour. Painting the shelves and interior of your kitchen cupboards is such a great idea, as seen in this fun and fruity themed kitchen. A great option if you are not feeling brave enough to paint an entire wall or door with your chosen colours.

Perhaps your kitchen worktops and cabinets are white or plain wood and you aren't keen on a painting a wall in bright hues. Why not theme your appliances and kitchen supplies in a particular tone?
